Charlottesville, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - A person is in critical condition after they were stabbed Thursday near UVA’s Alumni Hall in Charlottesville on Thursday, Feb. 27.

The incident prompted a campus-wide lockdown at around 5 p.m. as police searched for “an active attacker with [a] knife.” The shelter-in-place order lasted about an hour and was lifted after police detained the suspect, identified only as a middle-aged man.

Police say neither the suspect nor the victim had ties to UVA. The victim remains hospitalized in critical condition. An investigation is ongoing.

This is the second time this week UVA officials have had to issue a shelter-in-place directive. On Tuesday, a shelter-in-place order was in effect while police searched for a suspect who evaded a traffic stop and hit multiple cars, including a state police vehicle.
