Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - Primary Election Day is Tuesday, June 18 in Virginia. Polls opened at 6 a.m. and will close at 7 p.m. in Richmond.

Voters just need to bring their ID to the polls with them. If you don’t have a driver’s license, you’ll need to bring another form of identification that has your address on it for a poll worker to verify.

Once at the polls, you’ll be asked whether you want to vote in the Republican primary or the Democratic primary. Some localities will not have primaries for both parties.

The ballot is short and voting shouldn’t take more than ten minutes, says Office of Elections spokesperson Selna Shi. She adds that it’s a good idea to double-check your polling place since there are eight new temporary voting precincts in Richmond.

“I would just keep in mind that, if you are one of the people or if you live in one of the precincts that the polling places have been changed, just make sure that you are going to the right precinct,” Shi told our partners at 8News.

Affected voters will have received a letter from the Richmond Office of Elections informing them of the changes.
