Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - About 100 demonstrators marched in Richmond on Monday from Monroe Park toward the State Capitol building to deliver demands to senators representing the Commonwealth.
The march came one week after the anti-Israel encampment was broken up at Virginia Commonwealth University. On Monday, May 6, pro-Palestinian protestors set up an encampment outside of VCU’s James Branch Cabell Library. The protest ended in several arrests.
In the latest protest, demonstrators marched in the direction of the state capitol to deliver a list of demands to senators Tim Kaine and Mark Warner.
Organizers are demanding the following from Virginia lawmakers:
• Meet with VCU President Michael Rao and student protestors
• Denounce the actions taken by police at the protest held on April 29th
• Call on VCU to disclose financial ties to Israel
• Call on VCU to divest from Israeli companies
• Call on Virginia colleges and universities to drop charges against encampment protestors
• Senator Kaine to stop sending aid to Israel
Leaders of Monday’s March said they will not stop fighting until the demands are met.
