Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) -- The City of Richmond has now acquired a plot of land on Dock Street, just below Libby Hill, creating a continuous publicly accessible riverfront and opening the door for finishing the Virginia Capital Trail.

Mayor Levar Stoney called the acquisition a project years in the making. Senator Tim Kaine pointed out that, since this project allows for the completion of the Capitol Trail (which began when Kaine was mayor of Richmond), it is actually a final step in a project ongoing since 1998.

Stoney also drew attention to the city's broader initiative for riverfront events, and said that he believes this Dock St location would be a prime space for future city events.
