Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - After a heating system failure led to smoke and fumes inside the Richmond Office of Elections’ building, the office has announced that it will relocate polling to a different location on Friday.
In an announcement posted on X by the office in the morning of Thursday, Feb. 1, officials said fumes were still being “aired out” and the building would close early at noon.
Later Thursday evening, the office said it would remain closed Friday, Feb. 2 and that it would begin relocating polling to City Hall “as an emergency measure for poll workers, allowing the continuation of early voting until the original building is deemed safe.”
The office said on-site staff will begin setting up the new location for early voting from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 2.
