Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - On the night of Wednesday, November 30, Richmond Police arrested two men for attempted catalytic converter theft. After a witness saw the two climbing under a car and heard the sound of sawing metal, they contacted police who arrived in time to find the two men attempting to leave in a pickup truck. The officers detained the individuals.

Police say the witness showed them the car the men had climbed under, and police found the catalytic converter partially sawed underneath. In the individuals' truck, officers found a handheld metal-cutting device.

The two have been charged with felony offense of tampering with a catalytic converter. One is also being charged with felony possession of burglary tools. Police do not yet have enough evidence to know if the men have been involvement in other such thefts in Virginia, but the possible has not been ruled out.

Richmond Police used this opportunity to remind the public that one can make an appointment for their car at Midas for their catalytic converter to be spray painted. The painting is free and acts as a deterrent for potential thieves (the spray paint limits the ability for the converters to be resold).
