Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - Richmond Police held their "salute to excellence" award ceremony, commending both citizens and officers for actions they deemed exceptional.
Citizens recognized included an emergency room doctor who administered CPR to a man he found unresponsive outside a Rite-Aid, a woman who helps lead community meetings in Battery Park, and a woman who works to foster a relationship between Richmond Police and residents of Gilpin Court.
They also recognized officers who effectively deescalated dangerous situations, officers who took action in dangerous situations, and units whose work they deemed above-and-beyond.
The ceremony closed with the introduction of a new award named after former Richmond Police officer Jean-Guy LeGouffe, who died earlier this year following a long battle with cancer.
