Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - Richmond Police Chief Gerald Smith says his department is ready and preparing for any protests, now or into the summer. There have been marches and gatherings this week, following the controversial stop of an Army Lieutenant in Windsor, as well as the fatal police shooting of a man in suburban Minneapolis.

This week's events have been peaceful. Protests last year occasionally featured vandalism and property damage. Smith says he anticipates further protests this year, especially as the Derek Chauvin trial wraps up.

Smith spoke about the protest preparations during a press conference on recent violence in the city.
