Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - Over a thousand people gathered Saturday at the State Capitol for what was called a “Hands Off!” protest.
It was a part of a nationwide day of action against President Trump and his administration’s policies. Areas of focus included healthcare cuts, downsizing and eliminating government agencies, human rights, and the deportation of immigrants.
Those in attendance heard speeches from lawmakers and activists before marching a mile to Monroe Park to continue the rally.
The White House responded, saying the president will always protect social security, medicare, and medicaid for eligible beneficiaries.
More than 1,200 “Hands Off!” demonstrations were planned in all 50 states Saturday by more than 150 groups.
