Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - An official groundbreaking for the new ballpark to replace the Diamond will be next month, with construction getting underway this fall.

The City of Richmond also announced Thursday that it has sold nearly $130 million in bonds to help with the construction of the ballpark and the Diamond District’s site infrastructure.

Officials say the new home for the Flying Squirrels will be ready for the 2026 season.

“Our finance and development teams have put in so much time and effort toward making this moment possible,” Richmond Mayor Levar Stoney said in a statement. “I’m grateful for their hard work and can’t wait to break ground on this project!”

The Diamond District also includes plans to construct private developments, including a hotel, retail stores and housing units. The construction of those private developments will start in early 2025, according to the city’s release.
