RVA Illuminates Happening Tonight

Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - RVA Illuminates -- the event formally known as The Grand Illumination -- is set to take place tonight at Kanawha Plaza from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The event is free and will take place rain or shine.

The City of Richmond will be lit up with thousands of Christmas lights at 6 p.m. There will also be a tree lighting.


There will be several family activities including, live performances from Rodney Stith, The Legacy Band, and the Huguenot Choir. There will also be food trucks, and a screening of "How the Grinch Stole Christmas." People are invited to bring blankets and chairs to watch the movie under the lights.

Organizers say there will be restricted parking and street closures until 10 p.m. Friday evening.

The following streets will have restricted parking:
S. 8th Street (both sides) between E. Canal & Cary Streets;
S. 9th Street (West side) between E. Canal & Cary Streets.

The following street closures will be in effect:
S. 7th street between E. Byrd and Canal Streets (9 a.m. until 10 p.m.);
E. Canal Street between 7th and 9th Streets (2 p.m. until 10 p.m.).
