Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - Virginia State Schools Superintendent James Lane says with the federal government now allowing kids 12-16 to get vaccinated, they are encouraging schools to hold clinics to get that age group the shots. No vaccinations are allowed without parent permission, but Lane says parents would not need to be present in the school setting, perhaps making it more efficient for those children to get vaccinated.
Lane calls the expansion of ages for vaccination an important step to getting back to normal school next fall. The vaccine is not going to be mandated, but Lane says it will make people more comfortable in returning to school.
Lane says he has not heard of any schools rejecting the idea of clinics, although some may find it to make more sense to do clinics in other locations.
