Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - The first phase of the Scott’s Addition road improvement project is nearing completion, according to City officials.

The $1.2 million improvement plan, which began in October 2023, has already led to the repaving of 90% of roads. Bike lanes are expected to be added in the coming months on Marshall, Moore, and Norfolk Streets.

“We’re trying to make it a total transit transformation for transportation and safety,” Bobby Vincent, the director of Richmond’s Department of Public Works, told our partners at 8News. “And so we’re going to make things safer for pedestrians, as well as bicyclists.”

The first phase of the project is expected to be complete this summer, weather permitting. City officials are aiming to make the neighborhood safer for residents and more attractive to new businesses.

“And the more safe you make it, the more it’ll encourage people from outside the neighborhood to come and enjoy everything it has to offer — its breweries, businesses, restaurants. Just walking around is a good time, honestly,” said City Council 2nd District Representative Katherine Jordan.
