Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - Virginia State Police will have all available troopers out on the roads this holiday weekend, and say they are concerned about potential fatal accidents, as we have our first true holiday travel weekend in a year and a half. State Police point out there have been at least 22 fatalities on the highways in just the past week.

Officers are also concerned because the increase in congestion is coming while there has been an increase in speeding in the last year and a half because of fewer cars on the road during the Pandemic. Spokeswoman Corinne Geller is asking people to slow down, pay attention, and be patient on the roads in the coming days.

AAA estimates over a million Virginians are traveling for Memorial Day.
