Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - State Schools Superintendent Jillian Balow has submitted her resignation to Governor Glenn Youngkin (R) after just one year in the post. Balow has come under criticism during that year, first for controversies surrounding proposed new history standards, as well as for a funding error that could have left school districts $200 million short.
Balow came to Virginia from Wyoming. In a statement, Balow said she was proud of the agenda advanced over the past two General Assembly sessions. However, the history standards will likely be what marks her term here, as an earlier draft had to be withdrawn and re-written because of errors and omissions. The Virginia Education Association, as of a month ago, still opposes the newer draft.
Ballow's last day will be March 9th.
