Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - Mayor Levar Stoney (D) is proposing to spend $200,000 in his proposed budget to restart the History and Culture Commission. Stoney wants the commission to issue a report on Confederate names around the city on bridges, roads, and public spaces, and come up with a process to rename them.
Stoney also wants the Commission to start a historic marker program. The budget also includes raises for all employees, and raises in the range of five percent for police officers and firefighters.
Stoney is also proposing an additional $21 million for schools and $200 million for school construction.
