Henrico County, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - UPDATE: The seventh grader in custody has been charged with malicious wounding, stabbing, and possession of a knife on school grounds.
A student was stabbed at Brookland Middle School today following an altercation between two 7th graders. "The knife was quickly recovered," according to an email sent by principal Nic Barlett, "and the suspect is in custody."
Henrico Police Chief Eric English said that the student who was stabbed was taken to a hospital with "serious injuries." He confirmed that a person of interest was taken into custody following the incident, and that a small pocket knife was recovered at the scene.
Brookland remained on "teach and lock" — where instruction continues but students are not allowed out into the hallways — for the remainder of the day. There was also notably increased law enforcement presence in front of the school.
