Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) On Wednesday morning a tanker truck carrying approximately 10,000 gallons of propane crashed into a median off of I-85 in Mecklenburg County. The tractor trailer was heading north near the one mile marker when it fell over.
According to Virginia State Police, both the driver and the tank holding the gasoline are okay. Their public relations director, Corinne Geller, said that the tank must be emptied before they can turn the truck upright and remove it from the median due to the dangerous chemical inside the tank.
"For the safety of the crews that are pumping that propane off the overturned and motorists in general, we are advising people to stay away from the area," Geller said. She added that there are detours in both North Carolina and Virginia.
