Chesterfield County, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - Officials are working to determine the cause of a two-story house fire that caused significant damage.
Just before 7 a.m. Friday morning, Chesterfield County firefighters were called to the 5600 block of Drayton Landing Court for a reported two-alarm house fire.
“The first firefighters who arrived on the scene found heavy fire coming from the home. Because of that, and the proximity to neighboring homes, they quickly declared a second alarm,” Chesterfield Fire & EMS said.
According to authorities, three people inside were able to escape the house before crews responded at the scene. They have all been taken to VCU Medical Center for treatment. Two people had smoke inhalation injuries and one person had burn injuries.
The fire was marked under control shortly after 8 a.m. However, officials say a significant portion of the house collapsed as a result of the fire. Two houses next to it also suffered minor damage.
Authorities said crews are expected to remain at the scene for most of the day.
