Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - AAA Mid-Atlantic is expecting a big bounceback in travel for the Fourth of July. The travel and automobile agency is forecasting 1.33 million Virginians will head out for the holidays, a 37% increase over the pandemic year, and just one percent off 2019's record.

Of those traveling, 93% are expected to go by car. AAA Spokesman Morgan Dean says that is not surprising coming out of the pandemic as people want some control over the environment. Dean does note higher gas prices appear not to be having an impact.

Dean says the travel numbers are also helped by the fact the holiday falls on a weekend.
