Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - Virginia's unemployment rate bumped up to three percent in December, after sitting at 2.8% in November. The Youngkin Administration instead is focusing on the labor force participation percentage.
Virginia Employment Commission Commissioner Carrie Roth says the labor force participation rate was at just under 64% in December. Roth says that number is only around two percent lower than it was pre-pandemic. Labor force participation takes into account people working, as well as people actively looking for work.
Roth says the industries that saw the greatest growth in 2022 were education and tourism. The national unemployment rate in December was 3.5%, which means even using that standard, Virginia was below the national average.
