Charlottesville, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - UVA announced Wednesday morning that the final home game of the season, this Saturday against Coastal Carolina, has been cancelled. The decision following the shooting death of hree players, Devin Chandler, D'Sean Perry, and Lavel Davis, Jr. The three were shot and killed Sunday night, allegedly by Christopher Jones, a former 2018 UVA Football walk-on. A decision has not been made about the final game of the season against rival Virginia Tech.
On Tuesday afternoon, Head Coach Tony Elliot called the situation "a nightmare he hopes someone wakes him up from." He also says he is trying to remain strong for the team. Elliot looked very fatigued and red-eyed through the news conference, his first in front of media since the fatal shootings.
Athletics Director Carla Williams says other teams at UVA have resumed their seasons and post-seasons.
