Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - The Virginia House of Delegates has voted in favor of a bill that would bring back Virginia’s sales tax holiday.
The bill, submitted by chief patron Del. David A. Reid (D-28), passed unanimously in the House with a total of 98 votes on Tuesday, Jan. 23.
The three-day sales tax holiday has, in the past, made certain products – such as school supplies, clothing, and Energy Star or WaterSense products – exempt from retail sales taxes.
Lawmakers failed to include a renewal of the tax holiday in the budget deal last year, which resulted in the tax holiday being moved to October instead of the usual August.
If the current bill becomes law, the tax holiday will return next summer. On Wednesday, the bill was referred to the Senate Committee on Finance and Appropriations for approval.
