Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - The Virginia Department of Health and the Virginia Department of Emergency Managment are urging Virginians not to travel to Community Vaccination Centers around the Commonwealth, without an appointment or invitation. This follows reports of people, most notably UVA students, taking trips to Danville to receive left-over vaccines there. The Danville center has had more shots than demand and was taking walk-ins.
Both agencies say walk-ins are no longer allowed and that there are now plans for those leftover vaccines so they go to priority groups. They also say they are monitoring demand and will adjust distribution as needed. The health department also says using phases gets shots to the most vulnerable first.
Richmond also announced its moving its southside mass vaccination clinic to George Wythe High School from Celebration Church. The Richmond-Henrico Health District says logistically it makes more sense, as school in the city remains virtual and Richmond Public Schools also runs the northside mass vaccination site, the Arthur Ashe Center.
