Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - Virginia Political Analyst Robert Roberts says abortion will now be a huge issue in Virginia for the next year and a half, as Republicans aim to take control of the State Senate. However, he also expects Governor Glenn Youngkin to act sooner, targeting Senator Joe Morrissey (D-Richmond) as someone who could flip on abortion rights.
Youngkin says he wants a ban after 15 weeks. Meanwhile, nationally, for the time being, Roberts says the impact on the number of abortions will minimal because most were done in states where they will remain legal.
Virginia has a Republican-controlled House of Delegates, which Roberts expects to pass a ban, but a Democratically controlled Senate.
