Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - The Virginia-Virginia Tech Commonwealth Cup Football game will not be played Saturday in Blacksburg. The Atlantic Coast Conference announcing the cancellation Monday night.
In a statement, the ACC said the decision was made following communication between the Atlantic Coast Conference, Virginia and Virginia Tech athletic department administration. Virginia also cancelled last weekend's game against Coastal Carolina.
The ACC says "(the conference) and Virginia Tech continue to support UVA following the devastating tragedy, which resulted in the deaths of three members of the Cavalier football team – Devin Chandler, Lavel Davis Jr. and D’Sean Perry, and injuries to students Mike Hollins (also a Virginia football student-athlete) and Marlee Morgan." The cancellation ends both teams' seasons as neither is bowl-eligible.
