Fairfax, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - Virginia's largest school district has announced it will start the school year mandating masks. Fairfax says students will be wearing masks, with exceptions being made for eating, physical education, and recess. The district says it is critical for their return to school, and for keeping schools open and safe.

Locally, Richmond will be requiring masks as well, as is Hopewell, which has already started school. Powhatan and Henrico have made them optional, at least for now.

Chesterfield and Hanover both have not made their final decisions. Chesterfield's School Board meets August 10th, and could decide then. The date falls less than two weeks before Chesterfield starts school.
