Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - Virginia's two U.S. Senators are reacting both to the bipartisan gun reform bill likely to pass the U-S Senate, as well as the Supreme Court's decision Thursday striking down some of New York's gun regulations. Both are Democrats and have favored gun regulations in the past.
Senator Tim Kaine says he is pleased with the reform bill and says it is a common sense measure. He says it will do more for background checks, and makes significant investments in mental health. Senator Mark Warner says while he did not get a ban on the sale of assault weapons for those between 18 and 21 years of age, he says the measure will save lives. It has enough support to get out of the Senate.
Kaine, meanwhile, says he is frustrated with the NY decision, saying it is removing safeguards at a time they should be adding them.
