Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - Virginia's Vaccine Coordinator, Dr. Danny Avula, is offering some explanation as to why some states, including North Carolina, are moving to full vaccine eligibility while Virginia is only in Phase 1. Avula says each state is handling distribution differently, although the passing is generally the same.
Avula says states that are now at, or are reaching, fully eligibility, started with a much smaller pool for their initial doses. As a result, their general population to be vaccinated will be rather large. Virginia, meanwhile, according to Avula, included a large pool in their initial phases, such that 50% of the population is currently eligibile. He says when Virginia gets to the general population, the pool will be much smaller.
Avula anticipates everyone in Virginia who wants a shot getting one by the end of May. The Biden Administration has set a goal of making every adult eligible by the beginning of May.
