Richmond, Va. (NewsradioWRVA.com) - Passenger rail customers are breathing a sigh of relief in Virginia now that the rail strike has been averted.
Those who ride the Virginia Railway Express into the DC suburbs no longer need to be worried about how they're going to get to work in the Capital Region on Friday. VRE said in a statement that they plan to operate at full capacity.
Amtrak took the pre-emptive action on Wednesday of canceling long-distance routes effective Thursday. Now that an agreement has been reached between the freight railroads and labor unions, they are working to quickly restore those canceled routes, which include some that run through Richmond, as soon as possible.
The routes that run through Richmond are the Silver Star, Silver Meteor, the Carolinian, the Palmetto and the Auto Train.
