Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - StormTracker8 meteorologists say snow will move through the region Tuesday morning and become steady at times before changing to a wintry mix south of Petersburg during the mid- to- late afternoon.
“Unfortunately for you snow lovers, that sleet will work its way northward into Metro Richmond by this evening,” said 8News’ Matt Dinardo. “It could be a very nasty evening commute across Central Virginia with quite a bit of snow on the ground and sleet mixing in making for some very tricky travel.”
Tonight, the snow-sleet mix will shift to rain for the Richmond metro and all areas to the south. Areas north of Doswell will continue seeing all snow with just a little sleet mixing in.
Snow accumulations will vary by region. Meteorologists are forecasting the following totals:
• Metro Richmond (including Goochland, Cumberland, Amelia, Charles City County, Buckingham County and other areas west of the metro): 3” to 6” inches
• South of Petersburg through Dinwiddie County, as well as Prince George County: 1” to 3” inches
• Areas north of Doswell: 6” to 9” inches
By early Wednesday, this weather system will clear out. We’ll start the day off with cloudy skies and a few rain showers, and the highs will be around 40.
