Powhatan, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - State Police say a 25-year old woman faces multiple charges, and has serious injuries, after a high speed pursuit along Route 60 in the county. The infant she had in the car also has serious injuries following the crash that ended the incident. Both are expected to survive.

State Police say the incident began along Route 60 near the Powhatan/Chesterfield line, when the Trooper involved tried to stop the woman for speeding. Police say she sped off as the trooper was about to get out of his car to handle the stop.

Speeds eventually reached 100 mph heading westbound on Route 60. Thr driver crashed, according to police, when she attempted to cross a median, went airborne, and struck trees. The vehicle then caught fire.

The trooper was able to rescue the infant from the car, and stayed with the woman until medics could get her out. The charges she faces have not been released, nor has her identity.
