Henrico, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - Despite defeat in a Senate Committee, Governor Glenn Youngkin (R) appears unlikely to change his proposal to suspend the gas tax for three months. The committee vote took place Wednesday, with one Republican siding with Democrats to kill the proposal in that chamber.
Youngkin claims the money is there, in surplus, to afford a three month suspension. Democrats have argued suspending the tax will take away needed money for road projects and road maintenance. A version of the proposal is still alive in the Republican-controlled House of Delegates.
Youngkin also told reporters he believes a budget deal, which is still outstanding, is close. However, he also laid blame for the delay on Democrats, which may not help efforts to get to the finish line.
