Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) -- Governor Youngkin has announced he is sending 100 Virginia National Guard troops to the Mexican border.
The soldiers will be sent to Texas, according to the announcement from the Governor's office. Youngkin has said that they'll be sent south in July to address what he calls "continued instability" on the border, citing concerns about drug transportation and human trafficking. He has also put particular focus on "the the flow of fentanyl" across the border.
He also referred to the situation on the border as an "ongoing humanitarian crisis," and that he is sending these troops at the request of Texas Governor Greg Abbott. In a Tweet, Senator Louise Lucas called the decision "disingenuous," saying that "when he worked at Carlyle Group he had the opposite position."
