HARTFORD, Conn. (1010 WINS) — Connecticut Gov. Ned Lamont on Friday declared a state of emergency ahead of Henri’s landfall — which is currently a tropical storm, but is projected to strengthen to a hurricane.

Lamont said he would request a presidential pre-landfall emergency declaration, which will provide the state with federal assistance in the anticipation of impact.

A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for Fairfield County, as well as many other parts of the region.

Lamont also said a declaration of civil preparedness emergency would go out, which will enable Connecticut to take “any actions necessary to protect the health and wellbeing” of residents.

Lamont said the state’s Emergency Operations Center should be partially activated Saturday and fully activated Sunday morning. Representatives from state agencies and utility companies will be a part of it.

Lamont called on 200 Connecticut National Guard members to take state active duty beginning Saturday.
