St. Tammany Parish is facing a major budget shortfall after a key funding source expired in 2018. To cover a projected $16–$22 million gap, mainly for courts and jail services, leaders have approved putting a 0.3% sales tax on the November ballot. If voters pass it, the tax would provide a stable funding source and help avoid cuts to critical services.
