On top of her health issues, Shannen Doherty is in the midst of a legal battle with State Farm.
Doherty is suing the insurance company over the state of her home, which was damaged in the 2018 California wildfires.
Now the 48-year-old actress says State Farm is acting nefariously by trying to smear her name by using her past cigarette use against her in the case, reported TMZ.
Doherty believes the insurance giant invaded her privacy by making false claims in legal documents by stating she smoked up until March 2019. But Doherty vehemently denies that assertion and says she quit the habit after first being diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015.
Because of their allegedly false statements, Doherty filed a motion asking the judge to punish State Farm with “crippling sanctions.”
Furthermore, the “Beverly Hills, 90210” alum is upset the company included her health records and home address in their legal filings.
A State Farm rep refuted Doherty’s claims telling the outlet her motion “distorts the facts. Rather than try this smoke damage case in the media, we will do so in a court of law."
Earlier this week, Doherty revealed she was diagnosed with Stage IV cancer after being in remission for three years.
While she received the news prior to shooting “BH90210” last year, she didn’t disclose it until the state of her health was set to be made public in court documents for the State Farm trial.
"I'd rather people hear it from me. I don't want it to be twisted. I don't want it to be a court document. I want it to be real and authentic," Doherty told “Good Morning America.”
"And I want to control the narrative. I want people to know from me, I just didn't want them to know yet."
Since disclosing her cancer battle, Doherty has been overwhelmed with well wishers and received words of encouragement from fellow former co-stars such as Jason Priestley and Tori Spelling.
