Creed III director and star, Michael B. Jordan and co-star Jonathan Majors are ready for the film’s March 3 release and spilled some behind-the-scenes details to get fans excited.
LISTEN NOW: Michael B. Jordan and Jonathan Majors talk Creed III
The pair sat down with Audacy’s Joey Boy to talk details surrounding the highly-anticipated film and their favorite parts of working with one another.
“The favorite thing for me is just the camaraderie, that brotherhood, that spilled into these characters,” Jordan shared. “It started off-camera and off-set, so to be able to have somebody that I knew was going to be ridin’ for me, every shot, every take, every scene that we did — I knew he had my back and I had his. That felt great.”
The feelings were mutual for Majors, who commended Jordan for his fearless nature throughout filming. “I’ll say his bravery,” Majors answered when asked what his favorite thing about working alongside Michal was. “He didn’t really shy away from any of the punches and I mean that in not just physical combat. Acting is a difficult thing, you are sparring with each other emotionally and he took every hit and was also throwing the same capacity.”
Clearly all-in as lead character, Adonis Creed, Michael. B. Jordan was also all-in for his debut directional role. The 36-year-old made sure to do his research and wanted to make sure all cultures of the sport were represented.
“I think throughout all the boxing films you don’t have any Latino and Mexican representation [in] any of those films,” Jordan expressed. “Boxing culture is a lot, primarily Mexican and Latino, so not having that in a boxing film felt criminal.”
He continued, “Being able to have an opportunity to incorporate that and Felix Chavez (real-life boxer José Luis Benavidez Jr.), and having that character — it meant a lot, to me. And hopefully it felt inclusive and I wanted to do you guys justice.”
Sounds like Jordan has more big plans for the Creed series as he expressed several opportunities to expand it into something even bigger. “I wanted to plant as many seeds as I could and create opportunities for these characters — that everybody seems to be very interested in and love so much — and see them grow,” Jordan expressed.
“Nowadays there’s so many different platforms . There’s graphic novels and spin-offs, there’s television shows, there’s video games, animations. So many different ways that you can expand the Creed-verse [and] I’ve got the ambition and the drive to do it, so we’ll see.”
