We’re going to need a bigger fish bowl!
A goldfish weighing nine pounds has been found swimming in a South Carolina lake, reported NBC News.
Greenville County Parks discovered the giant fish while doing a fish population survey at Oak Grove Lake on November 12th.
Earlier this week, Greenville Rec, which is in charge of the park where the lake is located, shared a photo of the “massive” orange carp.
“Anyone missing their goldfish?” read the caption. “This 9lb goldfish was found in Oak Grove Lake during some recent testing at our lakes. The work included electrofishing, a method of measuring the health of the fish population.”
Ty Houck, an official with Greenville County Parks, said the nine-pound fish was the only goldfish found in the lake during the survey.
According to National Geographic, goldfish can reach five pounds in the wild, almost half of the weight of the sea creature in South Carolina.
For those concerned with what the park officials did with the plus-size fish, after being photographed the goldfish was returned to the water.
"At the advice of professionals, we decided to leave the bachelor, or bachelorette, back where we found it," Huock said. "Obviously, they're really happy here."
