The brand new museum will be located in Las Vegas and mark the very first comprehensive Punk Rock museum as it focuses on representing Punk Rock groups from around the world.
According to SPIN, It will contain 12,000 square feet of galleries highlighting unique items from around the world that represent the genre. Items already set to be featured include Devo’s energy dome helmets, Debbie Harry’s Vultures shirt, FEAR’s saxophone, Rise Against’s acoustic guitar, and more.
NOFX guitarist and lead vocalist Fat Mike has been a a large proponent of the project bringing together a team of ten Punk Rock lovers, music professionals and representatives to make the vision a reality. He shared the news of the museum earlier this week with fans and expressed his excitement for the museum to represent Punk Rock groups of all kinds.
“If you’re a Punk band, you’re f***ing in,” he said of the museum’s plan to welcome all. “It’s that simple.” He continued, “We want people to come from Indonesia and see the flier of their band on the wall. You know how proud they would feel? I want anyone in a Punk band around the world to have that opportunity.”
Pennywise guitarist Fletcher Dragge looks forward to the opening of the museum which he says is a much needed “thank you” to all dedicated Punk Rock fans and a welcome mat for those who have yet to experience it.
“It becomes the soundtrack of your life,” he shared. “It’s such a dedicated fanbase and these people are in it for f***ing life. When people get into Punk Rock, they really sink their teeth into it and don’t let go. We wanted to create a place for these people and for people who don’t know much about it.”
The museum is set to celebrate its grand opening on January 13, 2022.
