Report: Texans' Joe Mixon to miss rest of the season with foot injury

Texans running back Joe Mixon is expected to miss the entire 2025 season, likely putting an end to his run with the team, NFL Network reported Thursday.

Earlier this week, we told you there was no substantial update on Mixon's status, after general manager Nick Caserio spoke exclusively with Payne & Pendergast.

This NFL Network report provides a bit more clarity, the first to say definitively that Mixon would miss the entire season.

"News of Mixon's foot ailment first surfaced over the summer, sending him to the team's non-football injury list before the start of the regular season and disrupting the Texans' intentions with their backfield. At first, the hope was Mixon would return at some point during the 2025 season, restoring Houston's leading rusher from 2024 to an offense that has since proven it could certainly use him."

As they have all season, the Texans will continue to rely on veteran Nick Chubb and rookie Woody Marks splitting carries. They also waived fourth-year back Dameon Pierce, who had been relegated to primarily special teams duties since last season.

For what it's worth, Mixon himself did appear to take exception to the NFL Network report.
