(SportsRadio 610) - Houston Texans offensive lineman Tytus Howard is expected to miss the remainder of the season due to a knee injury, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported Wednesday.
The loss of Howard is a big blow to a unit that has incurred multiple injuries since the early portion of training camp.
Howard, 27, who signed a three-year $56 million extension this offseason, which made him the fourth-highest paid right tackle in the NFL, had yet to play even one snap at the position this season.
The fifth-year pro suffered a broken hand during training camp which caused him to miss the first four weeks of the regular season. With veteran tackle George Fant filling Howard's absence at right tackle admirably, and to injuries to both Kenyon Green and Kendrick Green, the Texans decided to slide Howard into the left guard spot upon his return.
Rookie Juice Scruggs, who had just returned to practice for the Texans last week after missing the first 10 games with a hamstring injury, replaced Howard at left guard after he went down in the first quarter of the Texans' 24-21 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars this past Sunday.
