Texans trade WR John Metchie III to Eagles for TE Harrison Bryant

John Metchie III's time in Houston is over.

The Texans are trading the fourth-year wide receiver to the Philadelphia Eagles for tight end Harrison Bryant and a pick swap, ESPN reported Sunday.

Metchie, who was a second-round draft pick by the Texans out of Alabama in 2022, had a chance to make the team in Houston but gets a fresh start in Philadelphia.

His professional career was delayed after being diagnosed with leukemia before his rookie season began. Metchie returned to the field in 2023, playing a complimentary role over the next two seasons.

Metchie had 158 receiving yards on 16 catches in 2023, then followed up with 257 yards and a touchdown on 24 catches last season.

In Philly, he reunites with former college teammate DeVonta Smith and former Texans teammate Kenyon Green, who was drafted the same year and also traded there this offseason.

Meanwhile, the Texans add Bryant, presumably a replacement for the injured Brevin Jordan, who went down with a season-ending injury at training camp.

Bryant spent his first four NFL seasons with the Cleveland Browns before joining the Las Vegas Raiders last season. He signed a one-year, $2 million contract with the Eagles this offseason.
