Do you have regrets?
No, I’m not talking about how you didn’t invest in Apple back in 1976.
Or some form of crypto.
Or purchasing Cabbage Patch Dolls, Furbies, Teddy Ruxpin, or the Sham-Wow.
I’m talking the daily regrets.
When you yelled at someone who didn’t deserve it.
When you chose yourself instead of your family.
When you said you would go for a walk, but ended up walking to the pantry instead.
When you forgot to tell your spouse you love them.
When you thought church at 9AM was a good idea, but chose sleep instead.
We all do it, right? The fleeting happiness only to be replaced by shame and guilt. The good in the moment versus the consequence of choice.
And life is tough, so we find ways to make us feel better about poor decisions, because living up to them takes too much maturity and ain’t nobody got time for that.
So what do we turn to?
Social Media.
“I may suck, but Judy from Medina told me it’s because I work so may hours and didn’t have a father growing up.” (and she always hits like button, thank the Lord)
Substance abuse.
“I may not be my best self, but Jack and Jim smooth it all over.”
So the process of regret can be solved in 2 ways.
Face the distraction.
Face the music.
We choose distraction because if there is a plate of celery and a plate of wings, we choose the wings..They taste better and we’re immediately fulfilled.
We may dip our celery in ranch or blue cheese from time to time, but it’s only to relieve guilt..or our mouth is on fire from the wings.
Facing the music is tough. That means you don’t have it all together, and that’ll hurt your feelings.
Behind the music is even worse, as it includes a slow minor chord progression over someone who lost their way. New episodes streaming on Peacock.
Yet, that’s exactly what you and all of your Facebook followers need.
Because in a world of sending likes and fake encouragement, there is an underlying issue.
We are all flawed…And no one has the guts to be honest.
It’s easier to say your outfit looks great, you’re a great parent, you’re a great worker, than to be honest.. How would we be liked?
So..Working on our regret gets put on the back burner along with the steamed broccoli.
And nothing gets accomplished.
Do you wanna remediate your regret? Work independently.
Do you wanna feel better? Have the guts to feel worse first.
Do you wanna change your life? Change your routine.
Do you wanna have good wings?
Go to Hooters. We do.
Be bold and take steps. You already know the ones.
Let's stop the endless "you like my post and I'll like yours" and let's get to the heart of the matter, Don Henley.
All my best as you figure out life and the relationships in it
