3 things to know to start your day March 30, 2026

As Easter week begins, travel, safety, and seasonal spending are top of mind for many Americans, especially in metro Atlanta, where one of the nation’s busiest airports is seeing a mix of delays and relief.

Travelers flying through Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport are experiencing fluctuating wait times as staffing shortages continue to impact operations. On Sunday, roughly 30% of Transportation Security Administration workers called out, though lines remained relatively short. As of early Monday morning, wait times have increased to about an hour in some areas.

The staffing issues come amid a broader disruption involving delayed pay for TSA employees. Following an emergency order signed Friday, workers are expected to receive their pay within the next day. The situation drew national attention after Tyler Perry attempted to provide direct financial assistance to TSA workers last week. Initially turned away, Perry later returned and distributed approximately $250,000 in gift cards. However, reports indicate that employees are now being asked to return those gifts, raising further questions about policy and support for federal workers.

Meanwhile, drivers in Cherokee County are being urged to use extra caution around school buses. Beginning Monday, all school buses in the county are equipped with cameras designed to capture vehicles that illegally pass stopped buses. Offenders will first receive a warning notice, but starting May 4, violations could result in fines of up to $1,000. Officials say the initiative is aimed at improving student safety and reducing dangerous driving behavior.

As families prepare for Easter celebrations, consumer spending is also seeing a seasonal surge. According to industry estimates, Americans are expected to spend nearly $25 billion on Easter-related purchases this year, even amid ongoing economic concerns. Candy remains the top expense, followed by food, gifts, and holiday decorations.
