Good morning from Kevin & Taylor! It’s shaping up to be a warm one across metro Atlanta, with morning fog giving way to partly sunny skies and a high of 76, about 10 degrees above average for this time of year. Perfect weather if you’re headed out tonight.

Here are the three biggest stories to get your day started:

1. Guilty Verdict in Appalachee High School Case

There was an emotional day in court as Colin Gray, father of Colt Gray, was found guilty on 29 charges connected to last year’s tragic shooting at Appalachee High School.

Colt Gray was 14 years old when four lives were taken in the heartbreaking incident that shook the community. Relatives of the victims were visibly emotional as the verdict was read.

Many are calling the ruling a wake-up call for parents nationwide — reinforcing that adults can be held legally responsible in certain cases involving their children. A student who founded the school safety initiative “Change for Chi” says she hopes this step helps the community continue healing.

2. Georgia Budget Includes Tax Rebates & Relief

There could be some financial relief on the way.

Governor Brian Kemp signed the final state budget, which includes:

$250 tax rebate for single filers

$500 tax rebate for married couples filing jointly

Around $500 in property tax savings for homeowners in 2026

One-time payments for teachers, university staff, and state employees

With many families feeling the pressure of rising costs, state leaders say the goal is to put money back into Georgians’ pockets.

3. Fulton County Scam Alert

Heads up, there’s a new scam making the rounds.

Fulton County Police Department is warning residents about text messages claiming you owe unpaid traffic tickets. The message may include a link and demand immediate payment.

Police say:

Do NOT click the link

Do NOT send money

Do NOT share personal information

Report the message to authorities

If you’re unsure about a ticket, contact the court directly, never through a text link.

That’s your 3 Things You Need To Know to start your day. Stay safe, stay informed, and we’ll see you tonight if you’re heading out!
