If you aren't staying hydrated in the new year, you might want to reconsider your priorities. A new study found middle-aged people are 20% more likely to die early if they're chronically dehydrated, you might be thinking, "Self, what is chronic dehydration?" Well it's a condition that occurs when dehydration happens for long periods, and sometimes can continue all day despite how much fluid you take in. The study also says dehydration makes you 50% older.
The study was published in "The Lancet" looked at how important it is to hydrate. Aside from these two shocking statistics, researchers also tracked people's health for 25 years and the results were shocking. All the patients were over 45 when the study started, but here's where the study got interesting: the least hydrated ones were 50% more likely to show signs of early aging which includes sunken eyes, sunken cheeks, and dry skin.
The researchers also found that the participants who were dehydrated were also more likely to have high cholesterol and high blood pressure. So if you weren't sure what your 2023 goals should be, it should definitely start with staying hydrated.
