Metro Atlanta drivers are being warned to expect significant traffic delays this weekend as a major portion of Interstate 285 shuts down for construction, while the city also reflects on the legacy of media pioneer Ted Turner and news of a potential settlement involving Apple customers.
Beginning Friday night at 7 p.m. through Monday morning at 5 a.m., all lanes of Interstate 285 on Atlanta’s west side between Exit 7 and Exit 9 will be closed in both directions. Transportation officials say drivers should prepare for heavier congestion on nearby routes including Interstate 20, the Downtown Connector, and Langford Parkway as motorists attempt to avoid the closures.
The construction project is expected to impact travel throughout the metro area during one of the busiest weekends of the month.
Meanwhile, Atlanta is mourning the loss of media mogul Ted Turner, who passed away yesterday at the age of 87. Turner founded several major television networks including CNN, TBS, TNT, and Turner Classic Movies. He also owned the Atlanta Hawks for 19 years and the Atlanta Braves for two decades, during which the Braves won the 1995 World Series championship.
Turner frequently spoke publicly about overcoming a difficult childhood and credited those experiences with shaping his leadership and resilience. He is survived by five children.
In consumer news, Apple users could soon receive compensation under a proposed $250 million settlement tied to claims involving Siri’s artificial intelligence features. Eligible iPhone owners may qualify for payments of up to $95 once claims officially open through Apple’s website.
The settlement resolves allegations that Apple misled consumers regarding certain Siri capabilities, though the company has not admitted wrongdoing.
