Metro Atlanta drivers are being warned to prepare for major traffic delays this weekend as interstate closures, state tax refunds, and a high-profile fashion exhibit draw attention across the region.
Transportation officials say the closure is expected to create heavy congestion on alternate routes including the Downtown Connector and Interstate 20 as drivers look for detours around the shutdown.
The closure comes during a busy travel weekend and could impact residents heading to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport and other destinations across metro Atlanta.
Meanwhile, Georgia residents may soon notice extra money arriving in their bank accounts. The state has begun issuing one-time tax refunds totaling more than $1 billion statewide. Eligible individuals may receive up to $250, while married couples filing jointly could receive up to $500.
The refunds are being distributed after the state collected more tax revenue than expected. Officials say deposits are already beginning to appear for some taxpayers.
In Midtown Atlanta, fashion enthusiasts are flocking to a new Dior exhibition at the SCAD Museum of Fashion and Film. The exhibit celebrates 80 years of the House of Dior and features designs worn by notable public figures including Princess Diana, Rihanna, Lady Gaga, and Elle Fanning.
The exhibition is open to the public and will remain in Atlanta through Aug. 23.
The combination of major transportation impacts, financial relief for taxpayers, and a new cultural attraction is expected to keep metro Atlanta residents busy throughout the week and weekend ahead.
