Atlanta Hip-Hop legend Jermaine Dupri and 2 Live Crew’s Luther Campbell are executive producing the doc set to release on Hulu. Freaknik: The Wildest Party Never Told, will tell the story of the annual spring break festival that transformed a generation and helped Atlanta become a major cultural powerhouse.

Hulu says the film will highlight “the rise and fall of a small Atlanta HBCU picnic that exploded into an influential street party and spotlighted ATL as a major cultural stage.”

Starting as a small picnic near the Atlanta University Center in 1983, to bring HBCU students together, it quickly gained national attention and people from all over the country traveled to participate in the festivities.

Now contrary to popular belief, the “freak” in Freaknik meant freaky as “unusual,” but over the years that it was active the name began to be taken more literally and went in the direction of promoting sexual liberation and promiscuity.
